What’s the Story(rook)?
Bad news for my deadlines: it turns out I’m not three different people. Just the one, turning to the appropriate genres to indulge my love of magic, mystery, monsters, and mayhem. And of course, my deep devotion to puns.

J.R. Rasmussen: old-school fantasy with magic, myth, and monsters in fantastical worlds. Mostly clean (no sex, the occasional bad word, mild fantasy violence).
Cordelia Rook: lighthearted cozy mysteries with sassy female sleuths and their canine sidekicks. Sparkly clean (no sex, no swearing, no on-camera violence).
Jen Rasmussen: supernatural fantasy with ghosts, witches, and paranormal beings in modern settings. Not quite so clean (still no sex, but a dash of horror and a heap of foul language).
Two things these pen names have in common: First, I don’t use AI to write anything, ever. Every word you see, both in my books and on my website, was written by me, a real live girl who does her own homework. Second, there is always a dog, and you can trust that the dog will not die. (Everyone else is fair game.)
About Me
I’m a writer, reader, and tireless champion of the Oxford comma. I love stories in all their forms, from books to movies and shows to video games. I can quote 80s movies with startling accuracy, and name all the Plantagenet monarchs in order. I’m for dogs. My top three fears are sewer-dwelling clowns, ringwraiths, and Mrs. Danvers.
In 2024, I dropped dead on the street in front of my neighbor’s house. (I got better.) When I woke up in the hospital two weeks later, I’d missed a deadline, and frankly I’ve been behind ever since. The gaps between my releases have grown considerably, but I like to think the books are only getting better.
I live with my husband in an empty nest in Charlotte, North Carolina, where our household is run by a galumphing fool of an American bulldog.
